  3. First of all I want to say superb blog! I had a quick question which I’d like to ask if you do not
mind. I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear your head prior to writing.
I’ve had a tough time clearing my mind in getting my thoughts
out. I truly do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15
minutes are usually lost just trying to figure out
how to begin. Any recommendations or tips? Thank you!

Your question is an excellent one, but thankfully, I’ve never, as of yet, experienced the hurdles you describe in my writing. I can offer a few suggestions that may help you in this problem. Firstly, make it a point to write when the story dictates. If you try to force your writing before it is ready to flow, I can see where mental and possibly external distractions may interfere with your creative process. Secondly, I find my process to be very cooperative with me in that anything I write, whether poetry, short story, novella, or novel, takes its own sweet time brewing or marinating in my mind before a word ever hits paper. It is as if the story has a life in flux, confusion, or out of total focus, initially. Then the pieces to the whole are there yet jumbled up a bit. It’s like a safe that is filled but the door is still locked and the tumblers haven’t aligned themselves yet. Before I have much time to think about the answers, the numbers to the lock open, and the story is there waiting for me to write it. Mentally, the door is opened. Fourthly, the ability to write at any moment with professional discipline is one that comes with years of practice as we gravitate through experience towards becoming writers rather than pure storytellers. Honestly, I refrain from reaching this writing maturation as I truly enjoy the spontaneity involved in my writing projects. I will say that the first sentence or sentences of anything I write seem to be the most difficult to satisfy. I believe they have to be as perfect as possible to grab the reader’s attention to the point he or she has to read on.
      I hope this has helped.
Good luck with your writing and always embrace and enjoy your process.
