In an effort to make this read less like the bio on the back of one of my books, I’ve decided to present information about me in a somewhat different manner.

I am Ron Shaw, husband to Donna since 1973, father to Amber for thirty-five joyful years and retiree of the Atlanta Police Department since 1996.

We currently reside in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Both Donna and I were born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. Little did I know, back then, that the lady of my dreams resided only a few miles from me. In fact, she attended a rival high school.

I attended Roosevelt High School in Atlanta.
Roosevelt High

My formal educational journey continued at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia for two years from 1970 to 1972. I became a brother of Kappa Sigma while at Mercer.
Kappa Sigma Frat

After two years on the campus of MU, while on break, I met Donna who would become my wife in 1973.

I was home again for good, transferring to Georgia State University in Atlanta. Suddenly, with a wife and real responsibilities, a decision was made to seek a profession while finishing college. As fate or blind luck would have it, the City of Atlanta needed more cops, and they were willing to pay good money as well as provide full scholarships for officers who attended college. This was exactly what I needed.

So, while attending GSU, I became a cop and Donna became my wife.
Ron Shaw picture

In 1974, college was behind me, attaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Georgia State University in Downtown Atlanta, less than a block from police headquarters.

The next twenty plus years flew by, during which time, our daughter Amber was born. I’d eventually moved up the supervisory ladder within the police department, rising to the rank of Captain.

When I was a Lieutenent assigned the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit, eventually, retirement knocked loudly on my career door in 1996 due to an on duty injury sustained in 1992 while training for the coming Atlanta Olympic Games. I never saw those games in person.

After a fulfilling and highly interesting career, my retirement became official in 1996.

Retirement rocked on at its own pace until that fateful sleep in early October 2013. That night my first book was presented to me. While peacefully sleeping, a wonderful, marvelous dream occurred. It was the most amazing dream that any person could have…or, a near death experience.

You can experience what I did that night in my initial book SEVEN FISH TREE. It became the result of that dream or NDE. This book was written within less than thirty-seven hours after waking that morning.

SEVEN FISH TREE is available in eBook and paperback formats at Amazon, Barnes & Noble.

SEVEN FISH TREE wins and is awarded 2nd Place Silver Badge at Authorsdb 2015 Cover Contest.

Seven Fish Tree

Within a few short months while SEVEN FISH TREE was at my publisher, I finished my second book THE YELLOW BUS BOYS. This one will take you back to 1964 when I was a sixth grader living in an inner city housing project. The reader will see how my life was saved due to the kindness and love of those around me. Take a ride with the yellow bus boys from Atlanta as we explore Florida from coast to coast for ten days from during the summer of 1964.

THE YELLOW BUS BOYS is available in eBook, paperback, and hardcover formats at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and kobo.

THE YELLOW BUS BOYS wins and is awarded 3rd Place Bronze Badge at Authorsdb 2015 Cover Contest.

My next book TRANSMUTATION The Life of a Twisted Cop was ready for my publisher within a couple of months after my second one. This book is for adults. It’s as real as it gets, as the reader will learn what a police officer goes through on a daily basis. The stories are true. The language is rough, as you would expect when reading a police book based on facts. Please, pardon my minor sessions of soap box philosophy that are based soley on my experience on the job. My opinions are my own.

TRANSMUTATION is available in paperback format at Amazon.

This is a link to my Author’s Page at Amazon with more information about my books as well as me.

Take a look at the website, Ron Shaw, Tate Author, that my previous publisher, Tate Publishing created for me and my three books published by them. The site has plenty of information on all of my Tate published books, as well as information about me. It’s an excellent site.

Annie and I will have more of my books coming in the near future, such as, The Yellow Bus Boys Go Blue Canada Bound, Spirited Tales and Around The Campfire.

One of my latest books is without doubt the most unusual book to date. It’s a novella with an adult theme entitled RED. It’s within the erotica genre. The story takes place in 1967 in Atlanta, Georgia. Like most of my previous works, it’s a mixture of fact and fiction. I’ll leave the task of telling what is true or not to the reader.

RED was published Indie style. The magnificent cover for it was created by a young, brilliant artist from New Jersey, Greg Palko of palkodesigns.com.

RED can be purchased in both eBook and paperback formats through Amazon,  Barnes & Noble,  and kobo .

RED wins and is awarded 1st Place Gold Badge at Authorsdb 2015 Cover Contest. Congratulations and thank you very much artist Greg Palko.

Coming this winter 2015, THE YELLOW BUS BOYS GO BLUE CANADA BOUND. This is the second book in my THE YELLOW BUS BOYS series. It’s based in 1967 and filled with humor and a degree of sadness. It’s a vacation of a lifetime from Atlanta, GA to Montreal, Canada in ten days with seventeen, high school boys and their two, adult chaperones.

The striking cover for this book was created by New Jersey artist Greg Palko of palkodesigns.com.

THE YELLOW BUS BOYS GO BLUE: CANADA BOUND is also now available in paperback at Amazon. This is one of the most attractive books in hand that I’ve published or seen.

Also, coming in 2015 is a true cop tales book that’s a result of a writing collaboration between Texas author, D.A. Grady and me, Ron Shaw of Georgia entitled AROUND THE CAMPFIRE. It is being published and edited by Annie Acorn of AA Publishing. It should be available by December 2015.

AROUND THE CAMPFIRE: TWO BADGE-TOTERS’ TALES is now available in eBook format at Amazon (Kindle) kobo iTunes Barnes & Noble (Nook)

Approximately ten months ago, a plan was born to enlist select authors from around the USA to participate in writing a horror anthology, a collection of short stories. The idea was pitched to publisher and author Annie Acorn. After much begging, Annie agreed to publish and contribute a piece or two in this project.

When all was said and done, twelve authors, both male and female, became the contributors of two, horror, ghost, or paranormal anthologies. The men plus Annie would be published first in DARK TALES FROM GENTS’ PENS.

This one was published in August 2015. Included in the collection are authors; Annie Acorn of MD, Steve Cartwright of GA, Joe Eliseon of MA, K. Edwin Fritz of NJ, D.A. Grady of TX, William D. Prystauk of PA and me, Ron Shaw of GA.

DARK TALES  can be purchased in eBook and paperback formats from Amazon, kobo, Barnes & Noble , and iTunes .

My short story within the anthology is entitled THE DEAD AND THE DYING. It can also be purchased through Amazon,  kobo , and Barnes & Noble , in eBook format only. The cover for this short story was created by Greg Palko of New Jersey of palkodesigns.com.

THE DEAD AND THE DYING wins and is awarded 1st Place Gold Badge at Authorsdb 2015 Cover Contest. Congratulations and thank you very much artist Greg Palko.

My first book of poetry, WITHOUT FROM WITHIN: Poems by RON SHAW,  was released in December 2015.

The book is a combination of poems and lovely photographs taken by my brother-in-law, J. Robert Sosby.

It is now available in eBook only at Amazon Kindle eBook

J is the simple title of a short story that was written to be published in an anthology of short stories, SHORT & FUN STORIES: Mercer Publications and Friends, from authors around the world by prolific author and boutique publisher, Dorothy May Mercer of Mercer Publications in Michigan.

Below the cover is the description of J.

Salvation can travel in mysterious ways, arriving through unlikely vessels…even while visiting a cemetery.
As one extraordinary man’s life ends, thousands of miles away a baby girl is born into a world of little promise. In time, this orphaned child of God will discover she has received a gift greater than life itself.
During the darkest moments of their lives and deaths, three hearts and six souls will find each other.
You won’t want to miss this short story of love, sorrow, hope, despair, kindness, and faith.

WITHOUT FROM WITHIN: Poems by RON SHAW is also now available in paperback at Amazon.

After publishing twelve works, from deep within me, the innate urge to express myself in an entirely different manner overtook me.
As far back as I can remember, reading poetry has always been a passion. It may well have been one of the key factors in choosing English Literature as my college major.
This collection is the result of exposing my soul and heart in a way I’d never dreamed of doing so.
While my other works in publication are integral parts of me, I now understand that poetry is the essence of who I was, am, and forever will be.
With the understanding that these are my inaugural offerings and with the compassion to allow a heart without and soul within to falter, I hope you enjoy my poems.

Without From Within: Poems by Ron Shaw is now available in Audiobook format at Amazon. The book was masterfully narrated by Barry Schwam.

In January 2016, I was approached by a kind French lady who desired to translate my book of poems into French. In collaboration with Helene Leonard of France and Australian author, Vanya Vetto, two volumes of this poetry and photographs book will come. The first one was published yesterday, January 11, 2016. DAN’S L’ABIME INTERIEUR: Poemes par Ron Shaw is available only in eBook format at Amazon Kindle eBook

DANS L’ABIME INTERIEUR RECUEIL DEUX: Poemes par Ron Shaw is now available in eBook at Amazon.

From these two French editions of the English version of this book of poems an idea grew to combine the two languages into one book, WITHOUT FROM WITHIN: DANS L’ABIME INTERIEUR RECUEILS UN & DEUX for Amazon, USA and one, DANS L’ABIME INTERIEUR RECUEILS UN & DEUX: WITHOUT FROM WITHIN for Amazon, France.  Each edition would have different photographs inside, and we thought this idea would be an excellent learning tool for both English and French foreign language students.

Poetry commands the singular ability to lay one prostrate and bare before the reader, giving safe refuge to words and thoughts of depth excavated from crevices yet explored deep within the poet. I find no other form of writing to be so utterly and beautifully invasive.
The poems that follow are my second collection of published poetry. My initial traverse into the
purest of all literature, poetry, Without From Within, has surpassed my greatest expectations. It has been well-received. I’m humbled by the praise it continues to garner from readers worldwide. I’m delighted many have found favor with my poems and the photographs contained within the book. I see no reason to alter what has been a successful combination of poetry and photography. Hopefully, each offering will please your senses as well as touch your emotions. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a poem speaks volumes.
I hope you will enjoy TraVerses: Poems by Ron Shaw as well as the photographs presented by my brother-in-law, J. Robert Sosby.

My second book of poetry, TraVerses: Poems by Ron Shaw is now available at Amazon in eBook, Paperback, and Audiobook formats.

My next published work is a novelette entitled, CHRISTMAS PAST: AN ANGEL’S STORY. It is a somewhat sad, yet ultimately, warm and tender story centering around my family in Atlanta during the late 1950s. Here is a description of the story:

Travel back to 1958 with an angel on a mission to a CHRISTMAS PAST, as we’re shown a heart-rending story of a destitute family who happiness and Christmas had all but passed over.
Do the impoverished deserve kindness, generosity, or love?
Striving to survive life’s frigid and bitter winds, a jilted mother and her four, young children will be tested like never before.
Despite the crushing odds, will one boy’s prayers be answered?
Only time and AN ANGEL’S STORY will tell.

The cover creation is my own with the help of NASA and The Hubble Heritage Team at the SCScl. Months ago, I had contacted the folks over at NASA inquiring if it would be possible to use one of Hubble’s spectacular images for my book’s cover. After several correspondences back and forth, they granted me permission to use the image that is the background for this book’s cover. Thank you very much, NASA, SCScl, and Hubble.

CHRISTMAS PAST: AN ANGELS STORY is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble (Nook), and kobo.

I was asked by Michigan publisher/author Dorothy May Mercer to participate in an anthology of short stories entitled SHORT & FUN STORIES, featuring authors from around the world. I am proud and honored to have my contribution, a short story entitled J, as the first story within this superb collection of stories. The proceeds from the sales of this book will go to charity.

Here are descriptions of J and SHORT & FUN STORIES:

Salvation can travel in mysterious ways, arriving through unlikely vessels…even while visiting a cemetery.
As one extraordinary man’s life ends, thousands of miles away a baby girl is born into a world of little promise. In time, this orphaned child of God will discover she has received a gift greater than life itself.
During the darkest moments of their lives and deaths, three hearts and six souls will find each other.
You won’t want to miss this short story of love, sorrow, hope, despair, kindness, and faith.

Short & Fun Stories, Vol. 1 anthology is designed for the busy person with a few minutes to escape.
Within these pages are thirteen of the best writers in the business. You will laugh, cry and shiver, just like with any great novel. The advantage here is that you will get right to the meat of the action, within minutes, without frills.
Unlike other short story collections, this one is by several different authors, thus, the variety is beyond wonderful, it is awesome!
The authors are all successful published writers with many prize-winning full-length novels to their credit. For some, short stories were right up their alley. For others, writing a short story was a new endeavor, but they accepted the challenge and came through with delightful results.
Each piece is preceded by a short editorial comment giving you a preview and an estimated duration so that you can open one that fits your mood and reading time available.
Following each story, you will find a short bio of the author and an introduction to his/her novels, for your consideration. If you find an author you like, there are easy links to more books by the same writer.
We have done our best to see that the contents are acceptable for G (General) or GP (General with parental guidance) readers.

SHORT & FUN STORIES can be purchased at Amazon.

J can be purchased at Amazon

During the month of September 2016, two new works were published. The first is my third book of poetry combined with photographs, Southern Brewed Poetry.

Southern Brewed Poetry is Georgia author, Ron Shaw’s third publication of poems. The reader will find them to be unique, at times, quite literary, thought-provoking, and intriguing. As the title indicates, the author has tapped into his Southern roots to brew an eclectic mixture of marvelous poetry certain to capture the imagination, whimsy, heart, and soul of the reader.
Like his earlier poetry books, these poems are interwoven with the superb photography of J. Robert Sosby of Atlanta, Georgia. Rob is the author’s brother-in-law. He possesses a keen, artistic, and discerning eye, reaching beyond his camera, drawing the viewer into his world of serenity and beauty.
Ron and Robert hope you enjoy Southern Brewed Poetry.

Here’s an excerpt from the collection of poems.

from your pen
words washing
over mind’s body
in shades of azure
flowing tenderly
slowly receding
caressing my being
soft, warm waves of
black kissing white
ebbing, pulsating
breathing passion
into every pause
oozing desire letter
by letter titillating
feelings fast forgotten
longing rekindled
sensations streaming
prose’s stroking foreplay
culminating in rapture

The second piece published is a horror novelette, The Rebooted, arriving in plenty of time for Halloween 2016. The cover for this book was created by the brilliant New Jersey artist, Greg Palko of palkodesigns.com. I could not be more pleased with the cover. It sets the stage perfectly for the dark tale inside.

At dusk, three, loud knocks at her front door scared the young, grief-stricken mother of four – the tale begins on Halloween’s eve, continuing – Huddling around her in front of a solitary space heater, Ann’s three children jumped, startling her even more. For a brief second, they shivered, fearing it was death itself that had come knocking.

As a result of an accident, the youngest of her sons lies in a coma at an Atlanta hospital, living only by machines. His impoverished mother and her children must make the decision when to pull the plug. Two mysterious men appear with an offer to bring her boy back from the clutches of death, but she must sign the bottom line, allowing them and their company to experiment on her 8-year-old son.
Will they save Russell?
Will they snatch him from death’s grasp?
If so, who or what will come back?
How many must die for one boy to live?
Did death come knocking that Halloween evening?
In six short days, the truth will be revealed in The Rebooted.
